The case of Cathyrine Ng`oma from Chilizwazwa village, Traditional Authority Kaluluma in Kasungu District.
“ I thank CADECOM in partnership with CRS through LDS project for helping me with certified and improved seed that has made me to have bumper maize yield that I have never before”. I beg them to continue helping others who are more vulnerable as I was before.”
Catherine Ng’oma is 55 years old and married with 6 children of which three are females and three are males. The house hold size is 10 because she also stays with 2 orphans 1 male and 1 female. She is from Chilizwazwa village Sub-Traditional Authority Kalikokha Traditional Authority Kaluluma of Kasungu district.
Catherine benefited from 2019 rainfed Diner fair with a voucher valued K10, 500. She bought 5kg of DK 8053 (Mkangala) Maize variety which she planted on 0.5 acres piece of farming land. She planted 1 plant per planting station, at ridge spacing of 75cm and 25cm between planting stations (Sasakawa). She applied both basal and top dressing 23:21:0+4s soon after germination and UREA at a knee high stage consecutively at 12.5cm away from the crop (in between the planting station) quantified at 5g per application.
She harvested 3.25 tones (3.25 ox-cuts in local measure) that she hopefully said that her family is safe as far as food security is concerned. She has been failing to yield from the maize field as she has done this growing season. “ I thank CADECOM in partnership with CRS through LDS project for helping me with certified and improved seed that has made me to have bumper maize yield that I have never before and I beg them to continue helping others who are more vulnerable as I was before.” she had a smooth smile as she was saying this. Catherine was selected to benefit because she stays with 2 orphans and her old age status.
