Guest of Honour at the National Centenary Celebration of World Mission Sunday, Monsignor Dih Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFM Conv, has hailed the Catholic Church in Malawi for its vibrant faith and generosity.
Speaking during the celebration at Mzuzu Stadium, Monsignor Nguyen said he was happy and grateful for the opportunity to be in Malawi and celebrate the 100 years of World Mission Sunday with the Church.
He said Malawi has demonstrated great generosity in supporting the Church’s missionary work, noting that it is the first country to provide World Mission Sunday offerings in two phases.
Monsignor Nguyen encouraged Malawian Catholics to continue supporting the mission of the Church, while sharing Pope Leo XIV’s message that Christians should remain committed to carrying out God’s mission.
He called on the Church in Malawi to embrace a new spirit and “rise up and shine,” saying the local Church has a role to play in supporting the mission of the Church beyond Malawi.
Monsignor Nguyen said the Church in Malawi should support the wider world, while the global Church also continues to support Malawi, adding that God should continue to bless the country.
He also pointed to the launch of the five-year strategic plan as an important step towards strengthening the Church’s missionary and development work in Malawi.
