FOUNDATION LAID FOR FRANCISCAN FORMATION CENTRE IN MZUZU DIOCESE
The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu on Sunday 23 August 2026 blessed and launched the construction of the St. Francis of Assisi Formation Centre at Chasato St. Paul's Parish in Mzimba District.

The formation Centre will train young men who want to join the Franciscan congregation.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Bishop appreciated the Franciscan congregation for their work in the Diocese of Mzuzu for many years. He said the establishment of the formation centre will help in teaching young people and in carrying out different activities.
The Parish Priest of St. Paul's, Father Nathan Kakuo, said they decided to have the formation in Malawi to cut costs of sending candidates to study outside the country.
He added that the centre will also help in producing more Franciscan brothers and priests to serve in different parishes in the diocese.
The formation will be built by Chisitu Construction and Mponela Civil engineering company, the project manager Gerald Banda appreciated the support from the Franciscan Friars and said work started on 1st July 2026 and is expected to be completed by 31st December this year, within six months.
