The Diocesan Tribunal is the judicial branch of the diocese. In a general sense, the tribunal assists with canonical advice and it is responsible for hearing and deciding on legal matters according to the Code of Canon Law. However, the major part of the department’s work is resolving matrimonial cases. It seeks in many cases to work in collaboration with all pastoral agents of family life especially the priests whose role is to carry out pre-judicial investigation regarding the validity of marriage in case of petitions for nullity. The Diocesan Tribunal works in communion with the judicial departments of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lilongwe (Karonga, Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Dedza) The tribunal also deals with cases involving the clergy and Religious.
